Born in 1938 in Nkalinzi, East Africa, Hermann Schulz spent his childhood and youth in Moers-Repelen (Germany). After an apprenticeship as a bookseller in Neukirchen-Vluyn (Germany), he went into mining and worked as a dredger. He then set out into the world and traveled to South America, Africa and the Middle East, among other places. From 1967 to 2001, Hermann Schulz headed the Peter Hammer publishing house in Wuppertal (Germany). His critically acclaimed novels have all been published by Carlsen Verlag.
